Arrival and First Day in Marrakech
At the end of March, Luisa and I finally set off for Morocco, with Marrakech as our first stop – a beginning, wild and full of anticipation. Our flight from Basel took us over the snow-covered Alps and along Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, offering stunning views that gave us an early taste of the landscapes around Marrakech – a contrast between snow and warmth.
First Steps in the Medina
Our small hotel was tucked inside the old city center, the Medina, which meant we could explore most sights on foot during the first two days. The narrow alleyways and chaotic layout took some getting used to, but with the help of a good offline app, we quickly found our way through the colorful, enchanting streets – rugged and fascinating. Starting from the central square Djemaa el Fna, we visited the old Bahia Palace and Palais El Badiî that morning – a short detour to the nearby Jewish quarter and its cemetery rounded off the day, a spectacle of history and diversity.
Street Food and the City Gate
On the way back, we passed through the impressive city gate Bab Agnaou before diving into the street food scene at one of the many stalls on the old square – a moment full of flavor and vibrancy, perfectly closing out our first day.
