Oaxaca – A World Between Art and Flavor

Oaxaca – a city wild and deeply rooted, the cultural and historical heart of Mexico, where traditions like the Zapotec and Mixtec have pulsed for centuries. On our first journey here, I found a dance of light and color, past and vibrancy, amid the wonderful streets of this town. With my camera in hand, every step turned into a surprise – a travel blog moment etched into the soul, brimming with photography and memories that capture the essence of this place. Here, where history and creativity embrace, images with unexpected lenses were born.
Streets Full of Colors and Contrasts
My favorite pastime was exploring the streets with my camera – a stroll through alleys glowing in rich yellow, red, and turquoise, where contrasts of life and decay write their own poetry. Oaxaca is the hub of artists in Mexico, a melting pot of talents that breathe life into the city. From culinary masters conjuring magic with chili and chocolate to street-art artists turning every corner into a masterpiece – creativity pulses here. The bold murals bursting from gray facades fascinated me as much as the old buildings, their colors fading yet holding a rugged beauty.
A Time Travel on Wheels
As a contrast to this art, I encountered wonderful old-timers – Chevrolet Bel Airs and Ford Falcones, their rust and gleam reflecting tales of bygone days. They rolled through the streets, framed by the colorful, sometimes dilapidated house walls, a photographic motif that called to me. It felt like capturing the echoes of Oaxaca, a time travel blending past and present.
Food and Art That Awaken the Senses
But Oaxaca is more than pictures. The food here is a celebration – from mole negro dancing with dark chocolate and spices to tlayudas filling the air with their crisp, spicy aroma. The highlight was an espresso, roasted from fermented coffee beans with a splash of mezcal – a taste that still drips from our old Pavoni espresso machine, letting us linger in memories of Oaxaca. This culinary art, paired with street art, turned the trip into a paradise for my camera and senses, a contrast of heat and sweetness that inspired me.

My days in Oaxaca were an adventure, swaying between bustle and calm. Each click of my camera with the old lens was an attempt to hold the unseen – the sparkle of a artwork, the light play on an old-timer, the scent of a spice market.
