Cienfuegos, Old Coffee Fincas near Las Terrazas, and Viñales
After Cienfuegos, the longest car ride awaited us—about 500 km to the famous Viñales Valley—a stretch, wild and demanding. It was a shame that Fidel’s coffin arrived in Cienfuegos that day and we could have seen it in the late afternoon, but time was too short, so we set off early towards Viñales, a contrast between what was missed and determination.
Detour to abandoned ruins
The highways towards Havana and then Viñales surprised us with their good condition, leaving us enough time for a detour to the beautiful Las Terrazas. There, we searched for two abandoned coffee fincas, sleeping in the forest for about 200 years—after a nice hike, we found the ruins surrounded by solitude, a spectacle of time and forgetfulness.
Arrival in Viñales Valley
Just in time for sunset, we reached our final stop—the impressive Viñales Valley with its fascinating limestone formations and red, fertile soils, where some of Cuba’s best tobacco grows, a moment full of grace and harvest.
