The Beaches of Cayo Coco in Northern Cuba
After a stop in Morón, we finally headed to the nearby island of Cayo Coco in northern Cuba — a journey wild and exciting, crossing a 20-kilometer causeway built 30–40 years ago at Fidel Castro’s request to boost tourism, a contrast between vision and consequence. Unfortunately, bridges for water flow were missing back then, severely damaging the underwater flora and fauna, raw and regrettable.
Beauty with flaws
The beaches were still beautiful, a spectacle of nature and color — yet many tourists from nearby hotels and seaweed after the last storm had heavily polluted the shore, a moment caught between attraction and disappointment. After a few hours, we continued north toward Caibarién, near Morón, to spend the next days relaxing on the beaches of Playa de Las Brujas.
