Mount Everest / Qomolangma
After a night in Shegar, we continued by car, finally heading towards Everest — a drive wild and exciting, surprisingly on well-maintained roads, so much so that even a Peugeot 206 made it all the way to Everest Basecamp, a contrast between simplicity and success. The mountain landscape on the way impressed with its barren beauty, raw and majestic.
Breathtaking views
The view from the last mountain pass over the Himalayas was simply incredible — an extremely wide horizon, crystal-clear air, and a sight of three eight-thousanders: Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Everest, a spectacle of vastness and height. Upon arrival at Everest, we quickly threw our gear into a small, cold room before heading to the Mount Everest Basecamp and enjoying the sunset from Rongpu Monastery — the highest monastery in the world at 5,200 meters, a moment full of cold.
A spectacular sunset
The cold was biting, intensified by regular storm gusts from Everest that left us thoroughly chilled in the end. But the sunset was spectacular — cloudless, with the typical snow flag at the peak blown by the steady west wind. After dinner, I went out alone once more to take photos of the starry sky, a closing full of awe.
