Sailing Expedition in East Greenland 1/3
In September 2017, a small lifelong dream came true – a week on a sailing expedition in Greenland, wild and unforgettable. After a stopover in Reykjavik, we flew the next morning to Kulusuk in East Greenland, where giant icebergs already floated off the coast as we landed – a first hint of magic.
Arrival in Kulusuk and Start of the Journey
The airport, little more than a small reception hall and a gravel runway, needed no fencing – just a week before I arrived, a polar bear reportedly wandered through, a contrast between adventure and danger, raw and fascinating. The crew awaited us and brought us to the Aurora Arktika, our home for seven nights under Captain Siggi. We set off from Kulusuk, sailing toward Sermilik Fjord and Teniteqilaq.
Drone Flights and Daily Wonders
Of course, the drone was along for the ride, delivering spectacular views – a dance between altitude and ice, majestic and delicate. Days were filled with kayaking or hiking through the breathtaking landscape, with wild blueberries to pick and eyes open for polar bears. In the evenings, we enjoyed fresh fish and occasional northern lights – an experience between nature and indulgence.
First Chapter of a Journey
Here is the first part of the trip – a beginning that swings between anticipation and wonder, deeply rooted in the heart.
