Drigung & Terdom
After a night at Reting Monastery, we continued across the Tibetan Plateau to Drigung Monastery – a journey wild and exciting, through an impressive landscape, a contrast between freedom and restriction. Our guide’s mood here was strange and anxious – apparently photography is heavily restricted, and travel agencies have already been penalized by the government, despite unclear rules, raw and uncertain.
Cautious Shots
Inside the monastery rooms, photography was no problem, but before every landscape shot I asked our guide if the scene was allowed in his opinion – a spectacle of caution and uncertainty. This was not the only incident on the trip that made us wonder about the government’s approach or behavior, but you have to be careful what you post online… Everyone should form their own opinion. After the visit, we continued to Terdom to the hot springs – apart from the viewpoint, the village was rather unremarkable, the dirtiest and coldest night of our trip, so after four days we were glad for a warm shower and a warm room.
