Hiking through the Tobacco Fields in Viñales Valley
The limestone formations of Viñales Valley are something special in the early or late hours – when the light of sunrise or sunset bathes them and mist drifts through the valley, wild and magical. The first sunrise wasn’t as spectacular as the evening before, but the large swathes of mist were fascinating to watch, a contrast between expectation and grace.
A hike through fertile grounds
After the fog lifted and we enjoyed a hearty breakfast, we set off on a long hike through the valley – covering over 20 km in more than 30 degrees Celsius heat by the end. The landscape with its red, fertile soils was beautiful to walk through, and we stocked up on coffee and honey, a spectacle of nature and harvest. Unfortunately, our luggage back to Germany was already too full, otherwise we would have taken more (especially honey!) 🙂 The path led us crisscross through tobacco and rice fields back to Viñales by evening – our shoes muddy, but the after-work beer after this sweaty day well deserved.
