Bolivia – Laguna Blanca and Sol de Mañana Geyser Field
With jet lag still lingering, it was a bit intense to jump straight into a high-altitude drive across the Bolivian border on our first morning after arriving in the Atacama Desert. We quickly found ourselves above 5,000 meters – luckily, our circulation held up well, unlike some of the others in the car.
Our first longer stop was at Laguna Blanca, before continuing through the stunning highland scenery to the 2-square-kilometer geyser field of Sol de Mañana. Of course, the drone came along – and especially here, it gave us some spectacular views!
That night brought another highlight unique to this dry region – an impressive night sky and an incredibly clear view of the Milky Way, perhaps only rivaled by what I’d seen in Tibet. And the next nights would get even better…
