At the end of our honeymoon in Tuscany we made a short detour from the Gotthard Pass to the Furka Pass, and it was worth it. On the way there the pass was still closed because of snowfall; on the way back it was open. At the top a mega view awaited us. We got out the camping table and had a long picnic with a view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and even the distant Mont Blanc.

We skipped the grotto in the nearby Rhône Glacier, but we took a few minutes for a drone flight. From above the Alpine panorama shows itself with its peaks and the shimmering Rhône Glacier, and the well-known Hotel Belvédère on the Furka Pass can be seen in the pictures too.

A short stop that was well worth it. The Furka Pass is 2,429 metres high and links Gletsch in Valais with Realp in Uri; one bend is called “James Bond Strasse” because scenes from Goldfinger were filmed here. The Rhône Glacier, the source of the Rhône, has lost around 60 per cent of its volume since 1850.
