Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

From the black beach we walked the few metres over to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. We didn’t take many pictures there, because we were pretty frozen, and a warm soup from the little stove on the shore tempted us more than the camera.

We savoured the steaming soup on the icy shore to the full instead of photographing it. The lagoon only began to form in the 1930s, when the Breiðamerkurjökull retreated, and at up to 284 metres it is now the deepest lake in Iceland.
