Over New Year we went to Luisa’s family in Mexico again, away from cold, wet Germany, with Christmas and Luca’s birthday. We stayed in Airbnbs in Condesa, Roma Norte, Polanco and Colonia San Rafael, and this time I had the drone with me.

From roof terraces and balconies

We deliberately looked for places with a roof terrace or a nice balcony to take off from. That’s how the shots came about, from sunrise, when the thick smog bathes the city in a golden shimmer, to deep into the night, when the lights trace the streets.

The neighbourhoods from above

Condesa, Roma Norte, Polanco, San Rafael – each neighbourhood looks different from above. In the morning there is silence beneath the veil of smog; at night the city glows in every colour. A whole new view of a city we have visited many times. Mexico City lies at 2,240 metres in the Valley of Mexico; just over nine million people live in the city itself and almost 22 million in the greater area – one of the largest urban agglomerations in the world.
