Aerial Shots of San Miguel de Allende – a Play of Colour in the Light
We spent the last days of our Mexico holiday four hours north of Mexico City in San Miguel de Allende, a colourful town that has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site for years. We had been here several times before, but always only in the centre. This time I was drawn further out, and from above I discovered a landscape that amazed me.
Morning and evening light
The aerial shots were taken at sunrise, when the first rays fall on the colours of the town, and in the evening after sunset, when the Christmas lights bathe the streets in warm light.
A new side of the town
Beyond its narrow streets, San Miguel de Allende showed a new side. Only from above do you really see the hills around the town and its colours. The town takes its name from the 16th-century friar Juan de San Miguel and from Ignacio Allende, a hero of independence who was born in a house on the main square; in the early 20th century, foreign artists saved the almost deserted town.
