Aerial Shots of the Silvretta High Alpine Road and Reservoir
I had long had the idea of driving the whole Silvretta High Alpine Road once after the winter closure. I had been here once before two years ago, but back then the pass was still closed and I only walked up a few bends. This time it was a spontaneous trip to let the drone fly a little again. The weather at Lake Constance was pretty bad in the morning, and in the Silvretta rain wasn’t expected until the afternoon. On the way to the pass I stopped a few times for aerial shots. At the reservoir the weather still looked good enough, so I hiked through the lovely high-alpine landscape to the edge of the glacier on Piz Buin. The 22.3-kilometre road runs from Partenen in the Montafon over the Bielerhöhe to Galtür, the Silvretta reservoir lies at just over 2,000 metres, and Piz Buin is the highest mountain in Vorarlberg. A note for today: after mudslides in summer 2024, the road between Partenen and the Vermuntsee is closed, in 2026 as well. Here are a few pictures from yesterday:
At last after the winter closure: hairpins wind through the wooded valley of the Silvretta High Alpine Road, from the air.A tight hairpin of the Silvretta High Alpine Road sits between the conifers. The hairpins lie far apart in the green valley of the Silvretta High Alpine Road.Several hairpins step up the wooded slope of the Silvretta High Alpine Road.Wide hairpins across the grassy slope, a small building at the lower edge. The switchbacks sit packed together, with a few cars on the road. Two cars in the lower hairpins, a pale gravel patch beside them. The rocky ridge sits in cloud, with green slopes below it in Vorarlberg. The road follows the shore of the Silvretta reservoir beneath the green slope.Beside the shore road lies the grey-green water of the Silvretta reservoir.A pale watercourse runs down the steep green slope.Conifer forest below an alpine meadow, the slope lying in Vorarlberg.A person shows in the hairpin bend of the Silvretta High Alpine Road. The hairpin sits above the Silvretta reservoir, the slope between them still green. In front of the snow-covered peaks, the Silvretta reservoir shines milky green.A stream enters the Silvretta reservoir across the gravel shore. The road cuts across the green slope on the Silvretta High Alpine Road. The narrow road runs along the gravelly shore of the Silvretta reservoir.A pale bank at the Silvretta reservoir, with snow-covered peaks behind it.Hairpins cross a stream in the valley of the Silvretta High Alpine Road.Snowfields in the high valley and a branching stream in Vorarlberg. The stream branches between the green slopes in Vorarlberg.Several pale channels run through the green valley floor. The stream glints between stones and short grass in the high valley.A person in a red jacket stands on the rock, snow-covered mountains behind.
