Tibet – A Look Back… (Video)
Long before our journey to Tibet last year, I had the idea of turning some of the photos into a short video – set to a sound we recorded on the streets or in the temples. Today seems like a good day to finally share this little film from an unforgettable trip – wild and nostalgic!
The Sound of Pelkhor Chöde Monastery
The audio was captured at the famous Pelkhor Chöde Monastery in Gyantse, somewhere out in the middle of nowhere between Lhasa and Mount Everest. We were the only visitors and heard a monk chanting outside the temple – his voice echoed from a dark guardian chamber, where he sat beating a drum in a trance-like rhythm, a contrast between stillness and intensity. The atmosphere was hard to describe: dark red walls, faint daylight filtering through dusty windows, and the distinct smell of old, stale beer offered to the temple’s “guardians” – more than impressive, raw and mystical.
A Video Full of Atmosphere
Turn up the volume! I hope the video captures a piece of this unique mood – a play of sound and image that brings the journey back to life.
