Tibet – a Look Back… (Video)

Long before our Tibet trip last year, I had an idea floating around in my head: to make a short video from some of the pictures, set to sounds we recorded in the streets or in temples. Today seems a good day to share this video.

The sound of Pelkhor Chöde Monastery

The sound comes from the well-known Pelkhor Chöde Monastery in Gyantse, somewhere in the middle of nowhere between Lhasa and Mount Everest. We were the only visitors and heard a monk praying in front of the temple: his chant came from a dark guardian chamber where, drumming and praying, he put himself into a trance. The atmosphere can hardly be put into words – dark red walls, faint daylight through cloudy windows and the smell of old, stale beer offered to the “guardians”. More than impressive.
