Northern Lights in Akureyri
On our penultimate night in Akureyri we finally had two or three minutes of really strong northern lights. So intense that I could hardly capture the full spectrum of colour and the rapid flickering with the camera.
Too much light in the town
Sadly the many lights around Akureyri made beautiful landscape shots impossible. The experience itself was still overwhelming – a truly lovely end to a great trip. Akureyri lies at the head of the Eyjafjörður and, with just over 20,000 inhabitants, is the largest town outside the Reykjavík area – so for northern lights photos with landscape, it is better to drive a little way out of town.
