From Skógar to the Jökulsárlón

On our second day we drove from Skógar to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon – a classic where we stop every time. The weather that day was simply wet, probably the rainiest day we have had in Iceland so far.

Rain and a special light

Whether at the Skógafoss or on the black beach of Vík, our clothes were soaked through. In return the light had something special that you never get like that in sunshine. Now we're spending a few days at the glacier lagoon before heading on east at New Year. Skógar itself is tiny, by the way – around 25 inhabitants at the foot of the Eyjafjallajökull – but with the Skógasafn it has a folk museum worth seeing; the village was badly affected by the eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull in 2010.
