Northern Lights at the Jökulsárlón

After it had poured with rain all day, we hardly believed the forecast that the sky would clear from 10 o’clock. But when the first stars began to twinkle, we jumped into the car and drove to the Jökulsárlón.

The first northern lights became visible on the way, and over the next three hours they came and went again and again. The first aurora pictures of this trip were in the bag. PS: By the way, the orange behind the mountains at the glacier lagoon is the glow of the active Bárðarbunga volcano. This was the eruption in the Holuhraun lava field north of the Vatnajökull, which began at the end of August 2014, lasted until the end of February 2015 and left behind Iceland’s largest lava field since 1783.
